Angelika Gerbes (Associate Professor Emerita) received her PhD in Theatre and Dance from The Ohio State University and an MA in Dance from Mills College. She taught a broad range of dance history courses based in the western dance tradition from the renaissance through the 20th century, as well as "Dance in Diverse Cultures." In addition, she advised graduate projects and theses, and coordinated the dance history area. While Graduate Studies Committee Chair, she was instrumental in establishing the MFA degree in OSU's Department of Dance. As an extension of her area of specialization in dance of the 15th through 18th-centuries, she founded and directed the OSU Historical Dance Ensemble, a student group that performed dances of the renaissance and baroque periods. Nationally, she has been involved with dance research organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of the Congress on Research in Dance (CORD) and of the Society of Dance History Scholars (SDHS). In addition to serving on the faculty of The Ohio State University, Gerbes was also on the faculty of the University of Iowa and of Denison University.
