card and drop-in parameters and information

Persons who are non-majors or community members can only drop in to non-major studio classes.

If a non-major, university or community person with a lot of dance experience wants to buy a class card and drop in to the majors level technique classes, this will be honored on a case-by-case basis with the Chair of the department and the instructor via the person’s written request with explanation. The instructor will be notified in advance and the attendee will be evaluated by the instructor during their first class. If found not to be up to the level or speed of learning as the majority of the class, the instructor has the discretion to not allow attendance. The instructor will also let the Chair’s Office know of this decision, in case there are any future questions.

Dance majors and dance graduate students who by class cards can drop in to any studio class on the summer schedule.

Class participation and drop-in is at the instructor’s discretion. The instructor signs and dates the card for each class, then when the card is full it is returned to Jane to track summer class attendance. This is for dance majors, dance grads, non-majors, and university and community persons.

It is understood by the attendee that by dropping into a class, movement phrases may have already been taught.

Class cards are available for purchase by advanced ballet and modern dance trained teenagers or community dance members. (no one under 17 is allowed without at least 3 years of ballet or modern dance training; attendees understand that the level of the majors and intensive workshop technique classes and repertory are at the advanced contemporary modern dance level)

To track usage: Instructors will write the date and class attended with their initials. Cards are to be turned in to the Reception Office (022 Sullivant Hall) when they are full (by the instructor or the attendee). This is used to track attendance and usage.

To register via a class card:
Bring payment in full to the department in Sullivant Hall, 1813 N.High Street, Columbus, OH 43210. Make checks out to ‘OSU Department of Dance’, memo: Summer Dance. No refunds unless the intensive is cancelled.
