Dance Description and Notation

All students are required to take at least a two-course sequence in Motif Writing and Labanotation. The University accepts both these courses as substitutes for the Mathematical and Logical Skills requirement for in the G.E.C. Additionally, students may choose to take a third Labanotation course or Dance Dynamics.

Upon reaching the junior year, students in the B.F.A. track may choose an area of focus, such as Dance Description and Notation. Additional courses in Advanced Labanotation and Directing from Score) or other Laban Studies may be pursued, as well as a senior or honors project. Past student projects have included notating a short dance or performing a solo from notated score.

Opportunities for performing in notated works count towards the Existing Repertory requirement.
