OSU Dance Technique Classes in May

OSU Dance is hosting Contemporary (intermediate/advanced) and Pilates Mat classes in Sullivant Hall during May.

Classes are open to Dance Department majors, minors, graduate students, alumni, and local dance community professionals only.

A Class Card must be purchased in order to attend class (see details below).

Class Cards are now on sale for May Session.
May Session is four weeks:

Week 1 = May 9-May 13
Noelle teach MWF May 9, 11, 13

Week 2 = May 16-May 20
Rachel teach MWF May 16, 18, 20

Week 3 = May 23-May 27
Rachel teach M May 23;  Brandon teach WF May 25, 27

Week 4 = May 30-June 3 (no class on Memorial Day)
Brandon teach WF June 1, 3

A single Class Card is $10
A 5-class Class Card is $40 (or $8/class)

Classes are open to Dance Department majors, minors, graduate students, alumni, and local dance community professionals. You cannot take a class without presenting a valid Class Card to the instructor. Class Cards can be purchased in 316 Sullivant Hall prior to class, but advance purchase is preferred.

Purchase a Class Card from Deb Singer in 316 Sullivant Hall in advance or on the day of the class. Methods of payment accepted: Cash in exact amount or Check. Make checks payable to The Ohio State University. There are no refunds for Class Card purchases.

To use your Class Card:

  • Give your card to the instructor prior to class. Make sure to arrive at least 15 minutes early!
  • The instructor will sign and date the card.
    • If the card is a single Class Card, the instructor will keep the card and give it to the Administrative Manager after class.
    • If the card is a 5-class Class Card, the instructor will return the card to the student until all five classes have been redeemed. After the card is used up, the instructor will keep the card and give it to the Administrative Manager.

Noelle Bohaty

Noelle Bohaty (teaching May 9, 11, 13)
Noelle holds a BA from Washington University in St. Louis in Dance and Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology, with additional degrees in Acting and Children's Studies. Noelle completed her undergraduate thesis in site-specific choreography to graduate magna cum laude. Noelle was a Lecturer of Dance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2009 - 2013, and just completed her MFA in Choreography & Performance at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Noelle has taught dance and theatre for more than 15 years. She was a guest instructor at American College Dance Association, and her choreographic work has earned her numerous awards from organizations such as Musical Theatre International, and the American College Dance Festival. Her work has been seen across the US and in Europe. Her classes follow a progression from exploring intention and initiation through floor work to driving through space with juicy fullness. Rachel Freeburg

Rachel Sigrid Freeburg (teaching May 16, 18, 20, 23)
Rachel is a dance artist and educator based out of the Twin Cities, currently performing with Johan Amselem’s Compagnie de danse La Halte-Garderie while earning her MFA in dance at The Ohio State University. Previously, she danced professionally with Mathew Jancewski’s company, Arena Dances in addition to works by Angharad Davies, Tania Isaac and Kaleena Miller. Her own work has been shown as a part of the 9×22 series at The Bryant Lake Bowl and as a guest choreographer for the Zenon Dance Dance Zone scholarship program. She holds a BFA in dance and minor in art history from the University of Minnesota, and is a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy. More at https://rachelsigrid.wordpress.com
 

Brandon Whited (teaching May 25, 27, June 1, 3)
Brandon was born in Poughkeepsie, NY, and began dancing at the age of ten after his family moved to North Carolina. He received both his HS diploma and BFA from the North Carolina School of the Arts under a brilliant and inspiring faculty. Following undergrad, Brandon danced professionally in New York City with Randy James Dance Works, Daniel Gwirtzman Dance Company, danscores by Ofelia Loret de Mola, and Steeledance. In 2008 he joined Shen Wei Dance Arts as an apprentice and was promoted to full company in 2009 where he remained until 2014. Brandon is currently pursuing his MFA at The Ohio State University. His embodied research considers the range of male/masculine gender identity, expression and representation through choreographic process and the community-building dynamic of work in the studio. Through interview, discussion and movement investigation, Brandon, and his cast of dancers (constituting a range of male/masculine gender identities) will try to present and open and honest cross-section of ways of being in relation to gender expression. Josh Manculich (teaching May 9 to June 3)
Josh hails from Windber, PA, graduated valedictorian in 2005 and went on to pursue dance and psychology at Point Park University. Joshua's performance credits include The Pillow Project, Jaxon Movement Arts, Chicago Repertory Ballet, Pursuit Productions, as well as five seasons with Thodos Dance Chicago. Josh's Ride, The Rate In Which I am and Monologue has been toured internationally with DanceWorks Chicago. In collaboration with Jacqueline Stewart, their duet A Forgotten Rhyme has been seen in NYC as a part of the Dance Gallery series. Other choreography endeavors include, Dancing in the Parks, Western Michigan University, Piel Morena Contemporary Dance, and Thodos Dance Chicago. Josh currently is pursuing his Masters of Fine Arts in Dance at the Ohio State as a recipient of the Susan Huntington Dean's Distinguished University Fellowship. More at https://joshuamanculich.wordpress.com/
