OSU Dance Co-hosts South Asian Dance Retreat

The Department of Dance, the Barnett Center for Integrated Arts and Enterprise, and the student organization Odissi at Ohio State (O2) jointly hosted the South Asian Dance Retreat 2016 (SADR), a two-week dance intensive celebrating South Asian art and culture. There were over forty participants in the workshop, from inside as well as outside OSU, who learnt and performed in the genre of Indian classical dance, namely, Bharatnatyam, Kathak, and Odissi. Dance-artists, Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala and Sriradha Paul traveled from Chennai and Kolkata respectively for teaching and performing for the showings on June 4 and June 18. Sreeja Krishnan, M.S. Electrical and Computer Science Engineering from OSU, presented her Mancha-Pravesh, a graduation ceremony marking the completion of her training in Odissi under the tutelage of Kaustavi Sarkar, a doctoral student in Dance and the Director of SADR.
