The Ohio State University Department of Dance undergraduate and graduate students present solo and group works that express diverse ideas and approaches to movement explored throughout the year. Student choreographers created 12 new works to be performed at this year’s event, including:

  • D’or by Natalie Newman, which is a driven response to the spurring poems by Rupi Kaur, found in Milk and Honey; “The world gives you so much pain and here you are making gold out of it. There is nothing purer than that;"
    D'or
  • I am, and I’m, a collaborative work by Anna Vomacka and dancers researching how we can use movement to delve into states of consciousness, while attempting to use our physical bodies to help us gain understanding of ourselves individually, and in relation to each other;
  • [insert title here], an original work conceived in the studio by Gina Hoch-Stall and co-created on-stage by the dancers based on audience input;
  • Running around the house, and resting too by Claire Melbourne and Katherine Moore, an episodic piece developing through play between yielding and impulse and the subtlety and absurdity of loneliness within togetherness;

  • We Left our Flowers at the Wrong Altar by Molly Sienna Stack and Cole Henry Jones, who probe daringly into the lower depths of human emotions in their collaborative work;
  • Wind and Water by Maddie Mazzola, which is a trio that explores a constant stream of fluidity through physicality and a strong musical presence;
  • Josh Anderson, alongside his performer Anthony Milian, who explore their personal understanding of how people make sense of stories and how specific elements of narrative can be manifested physically;
  • April Biggs and her dancers, who through the use of both determinate material and improvisation have built a work that reflects what it means to be watched and to perform (are we ever not performing?) while amidst the uncertain act of creation with familiar bodies and people;
  • John Luna and Calder White, who will present their duet Document, which is a documentary of movement featuring spliced clips of dance phrases generated from weekly improvisation sessions. These improvised scores and set choreographies document the emotions, the stresses, and the political climate of each week and serve as an artifact of the relationship between these two dancers;
  • a million filaments by Alexandra Stilianos, which asks what happens to bodies when we build walls not bridges, give in to madness, and explore what feminine power can look like. It troubles the boundaries we perform as actor and audience;
  • Autonomous Recurrence, an interactive dance installation by Ashlee Taylor, that will happen prior to the concert in the lobby of Barnett Theater. The installation includes performances and a participatory play space for the audience. It features an Isadora patch that composites live and delayed video feed, allowing performers and audience to reflect on their choices or play with their past selves. ASC Tech has generously supported the project providing a webcam for capturing the live video;

with I had been silent for some time by Anna Brown Massey.
