Undergraduate and graduate students present solo and group works that highlight a range of ideas and concepts they’ve explored throughout the year, featuring an MFA project by April Biggs.

Works include the following:

Of Otherness, by April Biggs

Buffet For Us, Those Bitches, by Anna Hershinow and Meledi Montano is a duet with an episodic structure. Traversing space with vivacity, entering the ethereal, and appreciating every quirk that lives in between, Hershinow and Montano query the essence of “a powerful woman.”

A Circle, by Jing Dian is a solo piece that journeys alongside the evolution of light and shadow over time. Inspired by the way the sun shines through the windows of Studio 247 over the span of a rehearsal, Dian captures the parallels of time, life and her heart, hoping that they will finally arrive together.

deviant forms, by Kat Sauma consists of a trio and solo that rely on unity, collaboration and conversation amongst the dancers in conjunction with original compositions by Noel Hackman. Offering a metaphor of planets eclipsing in a grander universe, the atmospheric presence is threaded with deviations and departures from a central pull that sends each entity on their own path.

Continue, by Madeline Mazzola

Unrest, by Michelle Irene Sipes in collaboration with Kathryn Sauma, places two individuals inside of a reoccurring dream. This work investigates separate perspectives, grappling with the haunting edges of reality and the unknown.

In their work, Two Shitty People, Laura DeAngelis and Josh Anderson share intimate stories that live between their lives and an imagined reality, to explore how language can be meaningless and how movement can fill in the gaps that words leave behind.

from, to by Amanda Colangelo in collaboration with dancers explores power and resiliency through quiet physicality. It vacillates between glaring reticence and subtle assertion.

Twoby Katherine G. Moore in collaboration with Claire Melbourne and Brianna Johnson, is a duet that highlights the kinetic potential between two people, and between performers and audience. Through physical virtuosity, qualities of touch and perceptions of strength, the performers find themselves traversing the stage space, caught in both momentum and the audience's gaze.

In lost/found - old/new, by Emily Gaffga and Kat Sprudzs, all that’s found was lost and all that’s new was old.

Just Say Yes, by Laura DeAngelis is a trio created based on random writing assignments the dancers responded to which were then choreographed on them immediately after. It is a work of playfulness filled with intimate jokes to be shared between the dancers and with the audience in an overarching celebration of the chaos underlying everyone's lives no matter how put together they may seem.

Móka, by Arianna Fine, is a Senior Project piece based on a solo she created at Thodos Dance Chicago's Summer Intensive last July, which she has expanded upon and developed for dancers from CoMo (Columbus Modern Dance Company). Móka will be performed by 5 CoMo dancers during the Saturday 3 p.m. performance only.
