We will facilitate a discussion on the documentary 13th directed by Ava DuVernay and Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools by Monique E. Morris and Jacoba Atlas. Please register below to come to the session having watched at least one of the films listed. In 13th, “scholars, activists and politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans and the U.S. prison boom.” You can access the full-length documentary on Netflix or YouTube. Pushout: The Criminalization of Black Girls in Schools “takes a close look at the educational, judicial and societal disparities facing Black girls.” Excerpts of the full-length documentary are available on YouTube. The documentary was inspired by Monique E. Morris’s groundbreaking book bearing the same name. The Anti-Racist Working Group suggests you read the “Introduction” to Morris’s text before watching the YouTube excerpts.
