NOTES ON THE PIECE: Thank you to this amazing team of graduate and undergraduate students for their collaboration on this project. The concepts we have researched together while creating “nowhere” are the beginning inklings for an evening length work with my dance company. Throughout the process we experimented with how forces act on and in the body, and honed techniques for negotiating them when they are unruly and unpredictable.

Direction: Kym McDaniel
Choreography: Kym McDaniel, Hope Bodley, Malaika Burke, Ava Hunt, Keagan McCarty, Mariya Moiseytseva, Maya Regule, Brianna Rosato, Katie Sabatino
Dancers: Hope Bodley, Keagan McCarty, Malaika Burke, Ava Hunt, Masha Moiseytseva, Maya Regule, Brianna Rosato, Katie Sabatino
Notes on the piece: This dance is a development of a duet I created in collaboration with two dancers (Nicole Spence and Amy Sutheimer-Barnes) in 2017. This new work references the rhythms of the original dance while developing its own identity and rituals. The dancers move between structured, numerically driven choreographies to improvisations rooted in choice, impulse, and desire. The dancer’s insights and contributions were foundational to the work. I am grateful for their curiosity, commitment, and dedication to the process.

<<<TEN-MINUTE INTERMISSION>>>

Music: Conservatory Gardens by Wadada Leo Smith & Amina Claudine Myers, For Whom the Bell Tolls by J Cole - Remake Piano by Dhk4, XXX by Kendrick Lamar featuring U2.
Voiceovers: Jerome Carr, Isabella Tapia, Elise Conrad, ïda de Souza- Nianduillet, Masha Moiseytseva
Arrangement: Gerson Lanz Ruiz and Master by Seth Alexander
Dancers: Kennedy Gordon, Brenna Henry, Graci Jackson, Olivia Jordan, Zoey November
Notes on the piece: In the vibrant world of dance, tap dance stands as a unique bridge, connecting diverse movement expressions through its rhythmic language. Mañana… explores how tap dance can serve as a foundational technique for other forms, creating an invigorating dialogue between the percussive beats of tap and the fluidity of non-shoe movement expressions. The dancers and I strived to create a world where both art forms share the stage simultaneously into a singular rhythm. By honoring the traditions of tap dance while inviting non-shoe movement to join the conversation, this piece celebrates the beautiful complexity of rhythm, unity, and the shared human experience.
