Katherine Profeta’s longest-term credits are as a dramaturg with choreographer Ralph Lemon (1997-present) and a founding member, choreographer and occasional performer with the Elevator Repair Service theater company (1991-present). 

She has done dramaturgical work in dance, theater and points in-between with Julie Taymor, Karin Coonrod, Annie Dorsen, David Thomson, Alexandra Beller and Nora Chipaumire. She holds a Doctorate of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Drama in the department of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism. Her dramaturg’s journal on the first section of Lemon’s Trilogy was published by TCG as part of its Production Notebooks series; her writing has also been seen in Performing Arts Journal, Theater Magazine, Movement Research Performance Journal, and Theatre, Dance and Performance Training. In December 2015 her book on dance dramaturgy, Dramaturgy in Motion, came out from University of Wisconsin Press. She teaches in the Department of Drama, Theatre and Dance at Queens College, CUNY.
