Alumna Marjana Krajač (Ph.D. 2024) Receives Annual Award for Outstanding Choreography in Zagreb
Alumna Marjana Krajač (Ph.D. in Dance Studies, 2024) has been awarded the Annual Award of the Croatian Associations of Dance Artists for Outstanding Choreography for her 2025 work titled reconstructions: choreographic interventions on the structure of the surface—duration, erosion, accumulation, disappearance. Created for the Croatian Natural History Museum in Zagreb and performed by five dancers over two hours, the work examines dance as a mode of temporal and spatial production, foregrounding choreography as a spatial practice shaped by historical and material sedimentation, duration, and transformation over time. The project was supported by the Zagreb Dance Center, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, and the City Office for Culture, Zagreb. The award ceremony, held on 24 January 2026 at the Zagreb Dance Center, recognized the year’s most significant achievements in choreography and dance performance, alongside awards for emerging dance artists and a lifetime achievement honor.
Accepting the award, Marjana stated that the choreographic work emerged from an inspiring collaboration with dancers Ana Jelušić, Dora Pocedić, Eleonora Vrdoljak, Marina Brajdić, and Jana Božić, as well as with visual artists Josipa Tadić, Tjaša Kalkan, Inia Herenčić, and Lucija Marčec, and was realized with crucial spatial, infrastructural, and curatorial support from the Croatian Natural History Museum and the Zagreb Dance Center. She noted her appreciation that this synergistic, experimental, and challenging work was recognized and awarded by the professional field, adding that the honor also serves as an encouragement to continue pursuing complex choreographic and performative concepts.
