The American Society for Theatre Research Annual Conference honored Alumna Wu Menghang (PhD 2024) with the Selma Jeanne Cohen Conference Presentation Award. Wu's award-winning paper, titled "If the River Could Sing: Reviewing Xu Shuying (许淑媖)’s Chinese Folk Dance Lectures in the US Beyond Socialist Imagination, Han-centrism, and Multiculturalism"explores Xu Shuying’s role in rebuilding relations between the US and China in the post-Cold War era and contributes to the history of transpacific dance circulation by shifting the focus from a national identity framework to reshaping the narrative of Chinese dance within the global landscape.
