The movie is based on the CSR visiting scholar Dr. Kimerer L. LaMothe’s book Why We Dance: A Philosophy of Bodily Becoming (2015, Columbia University Press). She will host a question and answer session following the screening.Part of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s long-running series The Nature of Things, Why We Dance explores the evolution of dance and how all living things express themselves through movement and rhythm. In Why We Dance, scientists (many of whom are also dancers) explore the evolutionary implications of dance in various species, while dancers explore how movement can connect humans to others, the natural world and our deeper selves.
