OSU Dance Company tours public schools
Throughout the month of April, the student repertory company of The Ohio State University Department of Dance will be touring public schools in the greater Columbus area. This repertory company of eight undergraduate and two graduate students have been rehearsing diligently for the past three months to learn seven new dance works. The company’s production, It’s About Time, explores how time and rhythm are used in choreography. The program includes works by Bill T. Jones, Bebe Miller, Susan Hadley, Susan Van Pelt Petry, 3rd Year MFA Tammy Carrasco and 2nd Year MFA Quilan Arnold. This project provides opportunities for OSU Dance majors to experience a glimpse of company life while introducing children in schools to contemporary dance forms. Additionally, the company provides teachers with materials and ideas to incorporate movement into their lesson planning, and a study guide has been prepared by the OSU dancers to provide continued support for this outreach experience. As part of their learning laboratory, company members have taken on various roles of tour management, from public relations to study guide editor to tour coordinator. The opportunity to pursue this project is made possible by the great generosity of its donors, Karen A. Bell and Barbara Pinchuk. Due in large part to their combined funding, this dream project has become a reality.
