Rebecca Bryant gave a lecture demonstration and master class October 4-5, 2012. In her class she discussed her process of combining choreographed movement phrases and improvised movement with sound, text, video, and objects. A member of the Lower Left Performance Collective and co-founder of the Past Modern Performance Collective, Rebecca teaches contemporary dance and improvisation at Purdue University.
Sara Wookey lead a three day workshop (October 11-13, 2011) to help students explore the roles of audiences and performer in site-specific situations. Her lecture, co-sponsored by the Department of Art, outlined the historical Situationist International Movement in Paris (1950s) and recent trends surrounding spaces and public performance practices used by visual artists. Sara teaches at the California Institute of the Arts, the University of California at Irvine, and California State University at Long Beach.
Teoma Naccarato, a recent MFA graduate of the department, was a visiting artist this past autumn. During her time here she worked on the project Intimacy in Performance, which culminated in a performance by Owen David, Jill Guyton, Joyelle Fobbs, Brian Koenig, Clara Martinez, and Ellen Maynard in December. She also gave workshops at EMMA Lab using multimedia props and the Isadora software program to facilitate structured improvisation and group interaction.
Rachid Ouramdane performed World Fair at the Wexner Center and gave students an exclusive opportunity to discuss his process on October 21, 2011.
Hind Benali presented a lecture demonstration with Assistant Professor Esther Baker-Tarpaga on January 26, 2012 as part of her ongoing projects in Morocco and as Festival Director of Action Danse.
John Jasperse, artistic director and choreographer for the eponymous dance company, gave a master class April 27, 2012 for dance majors. Jasperse has been awarded many prestigious awards for his choreography, including a Bessie Award in 2001 and the Mouson Award in Frankfort, Germany.
Dianne McIntyre received a Arts and Sciences Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award and an Ohio Dance Festival Award for her outstanding accomplishment as an artist, performer, and choreographer. While in Columbus, she graciously agreed to give a master class on April 27, 2012.
Kidd Pivot Frankfort RM company members taught an improvisation based master class March 28, 2012. The class worked on refining the articulations of the body, working from the spine to the extremities. The class helped dancers focus on the interplay between analysis and instinct.
Kate Enright, an MFA alumna of the department, discussed her experience dancing in Europe on April 16, 2012. Kate has assisted Dana Casperson and William Forsythe with an installation entitled Knotunknot and also assisted Pina Bausch's Ballet Master, Janet Panetta.
Catherine Turocy, director of the New York Baroque Dance Company, visited April 23, 2012 to direct a master class in Baroque Dance. She was assisted by Sarah Edgar, a 2000 BFA graduate of the department. Sarah has performed with the New York Baroque Dance Company and now resides in Cologne, Germany, where she is completing her Master's Degree in Dance.
Marcia B. Siegel presented her lecture entitled Doing Dance Research on April 23, 2012. In her presentation, she outlined how she chooses and organizes her topics and also discussed her future research plans.
