President Michael V. Drake, Executive Vice President and Provost Bruce A. McPheron, Vice Provost for Academic Programs, Office of Academic Affairs Randy Smith, Vice Provost for Academic Policy and Faculty Resources, Office of Academic Affairs Kay Wolf, Divisional Dean, Arts and Humanities Peter Hahn Department of Dance Chair Susan Hadley, dance faculty, staff, students, family and friends came in to Eddie Taketa’s Contemporary Movement Practice class today for a surprise presentation of the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Lecturer. The award, presented by Executive Vice President and Provost Mcpherson and President Drake, recognizes six lecturers, senior lecturers, or other associated faculty members for their teaching excellence. Recipients are recognized with a $5,000 honorarium made possible by the Office of Academic Affairs.

But, wait…there’s more. Feigning their exit out of the studio, Mcpherson and Drake pivoted back to surprise Department of Dance Chair Susan Hadley with the President and Provost's Award for Distinguished Faculty Service, which recognizes up to three tenure-track, clinical, or research faculty members who have been at Ohio State for at least five years. Their contributions to the development and implementation of university policies and programs, through non-administrative roles, have been extensive and have made documentable impact on the quality of the university.  Nominees will have served in leadership roles (either elected or appointed), on university-level committees, or in similar capacities and should have evidence of continuing effective teaching and an active program of research, scholarship, or creative work. The Office of Academic Affairs awards recipients a $3,000 cash award and an increase of $1,200 to their base salary.

Both Taketa and Hadley will be honored at a celebration during spring semester and recognized during a home football game in Ohio Stadium in fall semester.
