The Performing Arts Production Manager works with both novices and experts to create a welcoming environment for performance and technology research, teaching, and learning, managing activities of interdisciplinary production arts for the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and the spaces within the Department of Dance including the ACCAD Motion Lab.

Provides technical direction for and oversees digital performance aspects of the Motion Lab and Dance Productions engaging with interactive media including lighting technology, multichannel sound, projected media, and interactive performance software (Isadora or Max/MSP/Jitter); coordinates with ACCAD Motion Capture and Virtual Reality projects and research staff; coordinates with Department of Dance production staff on the use of digital technologies in all Department productions at various venues; supervises the scheduling and execution of events for Motion Lab including demos and performances; serves as primary production manager for productions and special events in the Motion Lab by faculty, students and guest artists; supports facility needs and research demands in interdisciplinary production arts.

Specific Duties within the Motion Lab

  • Mentor and support technical realization of student research at all levels of study (including distinction projects, MFA and PhD)
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff on short term and long-term research projects, contribute to funding proposals
  • Continuously add to personal professional development, building expertise and knowledge of emerging trends in technologies and processes for mediated performance
  • Purchase planning, budgeting with director, identify purchasing needs, ordering, implementing.
  • Coordinate with ACCAD Systems Manager to conduct periodic upgrades to Motion Lab hardware and software including matrix switcher, lighting instruments, soundboard and speakers.
  • Collaborate with director and staff to identify new priorities for future investment (currently ambisonic, virtual production research and development).
  • Contribute expertise (light, sound, interactive media design) to Motion Lab residencies working closely with faculty and staff to support professional artistic research in performance and technology
  • Set up and support for audio projects in the Sonic Lab and AV needs in class and conference rooms at ACCAD.
  • Provide facilities and installation support in the labs at ACCAD and performance spaces in Dance (modular walls, hanging green screen, scrims and speakers and projectors etc.)
  • Oversee documentation of special events, courses, and research in the Motion Lab for archives, web, and social media with ACCAD GAs.
  • Assist and co-teach courses in the Motion Lab led by faculty.
  • Provide technology workshops, where desired, in interactive media for performance or other advanced technology theater production skills
  • Teach a course for the Department of Dance in interactive technology (traditionally focused on Isadora) and workshops within the Freshman Production course
  • Oversee and manage equipment check out system for cameras, tablets, intermedia technology devices housed in the Motion Lab storage closet.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Dance, Theatre or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in stage management, lightning design and/or technical direction. Experience coordinating Dance or Theatre production involving digital technologies, multimedia equipment. Experience in digital systems, mediated performance software and hardware, LED lighting systems, and digital sound.

Desired: Master's Degree in Dance, Theatre, or related field. Experience supervising staff and mentoring students. Experience teaching production skills for undergraduate and graduate students or apprentice programs desired. Experience in professional theatrical and/or dance production.

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this position is $53,000 - $71,700.
