The Department of Dance at The Ohio State University seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Scholar in Dance, supported by the Global Arts and Humanities Discovery Themes initiative and the College of Arts and Sciences. The Dance Postdoctoral Scholar will spend the one-year term, with the opportunity to renew, in residence at The Ohio State University, participating in the curricular and scholarly life of the department. The Department of Dance seeks a scholar-practitioner with a focus in interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary approaches to research-based practice and scholarship. The ideal candidate grounds their scholarship in practice; brings expertise of mixed ethnographic and historical research methods through a range of disciplinary approaches; and researches emergent and established practices in movement, digital media, choreography, and/or performance. We seek a scholar-practitioner working in and with movement traditions and practices firmly centering African, Asian and/or Latine Diaspora Dance Studies. The successful scholar’s cross-disciplinary research considers the circulations of forms, styles, and practices. We are particularly excited to hear from candidates working in one or more of the following: the adoption of a broad temporal time frame, for example the combination of historical perspectives with current dynamics of globalization; an explicitly comparative focus on translocal, transnational, and transcontinental perspectives; meaningful engagement with gender and/or sexuality related to performance practices; or a firm orientation toward South-South linkages and/or Indigenous flows. This scholar will contribute to our committed investigations of dance through embodied practices, historical inquiries, and technological explorations to deepen our engagement with underrepresented archives and repertoires.

The term of the position is one academic year, with the possibility of renewal. The Postdoctoral Scholar will teach two courses during the year in their area(s) of expertise.
